Best Beaches in Gozo Malta — The Complete Guide 2026
Gozo has no bad beaches.
What it has instead is an extraordinary variety — dramatic gorges that open into hidden coves, red sandy bays surrounded by terraced valleys, limestone sea caves with electric blue water, ancient salt pans carved into the cliff edge, and secluded inlets that most visitors never find because the road simply does not go there.
This guide covers every beach, bay, cove, and coastal location worth knowing about in Gozo — from the famous Ramla Bay to the secret Ta’ Bamberin gorge that even most Gozitans have never visited. Furthermore, for every location we explain exactly how to reach it, what to do there, what the snorkelling is like, and which private boat tour covers it.
Written by the team at Outdoor Explorers Malta — a family-run boat tour company that has been sailing the Gozo coastline every single day since 2016. We know these waters the way you only know somewhere you return to every day.

Ħondoq Bay — Views of Comino, Cliff Diving and Outstanding Snorkelling
Ħondoq Bay sits on Gozo’s southern coast near Qala — one of the finest all-round beach locations on the island. The crystal-clear blue waters, sheltered setting, and extraordinary views directly across to Comino and the Blue Lagoon make it immediately distinctive. Furthermore, the bay’s shallow areas make it safe for families while the rocky coastline provides excellent entry points for more adventurous swimmers.
Ħondoq is one of the few Gozo bays that genuinely offers something for every type of visitor. Cliff diving is available at multiple spots — from low jumps for beginners to higher ledges for thrill-seekers. The snorkelling around the rocky sections is outstanding. And in the evening, the view of Comino and the Blue Lagoon across the channel — catching the last light of the day — is genuinely one of the finest coastal views available anywhere in the Maltese islands.
The bay is easily reached by car from Qala village and is often included as a peaceful swimming stop on private boat tours of the south Gozo coastline.

Ta’ Bamberin Inlet — Gozo’s Most Spectacular Hidden Gorge
Ta’ Bamberin Inlet — sometimes called Bemberin Beach — is located just east of Ħondoq Bay and is one of Gozo’s most extraordinary and least-known coastal locations. This long, narrow gorge cut through the limestone creates a completely enclosed world — high vertical cliffs on both sides, aquamarine water below, and a profound stillness that makes the outside world feel very far away.
Inside the gorge, two caves and three natural air pockets reward exploration. One cave sits opposite the swimming ladder — the air pocket is inside the sea cave itself. The second cave sits at the very end of the gorge, where the walls close in and the water turns a deeper, more intense blue. Furthermore, the south side of Ta’ Bamberin is popular for deep water solo climbing at F6a grade — routes that double as cliff-diving spots for the adventurous.
While you can hike here from Ħondoq on foot, most visitors arrive by private boat for easier access. This is one of the locations that our guests consistently describe as the most surprising stop of the day — somewhere that looks ordinary on a map and extraordinary in person.

Żrieżaq Bay and Ġebla tal-Ħalfa — The Rock, the Mud, and the Salt Pans

Explore Żrieżaq Bay, a perfect secluded spot for private boats.
Żrieżaq Bay is a quiet, secluded cove on Gozo’s southeastern coast near Qala — genuinely off the beaten track and genuinely rewarding for visitors who make the effort. Surrounded by rocky cliffs, the bay has crystal-clear water, carved salt pans in the rock, and patches of natural volcanic mud that locals have used for skin exfoliation for generations. Furthermore, just offshore, the striking Ġebla tal-Ħalfa rock formation adds dramatic visual interest to the landscape.
The snorkelling here is excellent — the clear waters reveal rich marine life in an environment that remains genuinely undisturbed by tourist traffic. Best reached by boat — also accessible by a rocky walking trail for those who prefer land. No facilities — bring water, snacks, and everything you need for a self-sufficient day.

Ġebla taċ-Ċawl — Crow Rock

Swim in Gozo’s pristine waters on a private boat charter, enjoying a peaceful and exclusive experience away from crowded tourist spots.
Ġebla taċ-Ċawl — known in English as Crow Rock — is a striking offshore rock formation on Gozo’s southwest coast, often photographed with Mġarr Harbour visible in the distance. The rock itself sits in some of the clearest blue water in the Maltese islands and is surrounded by a reef that supports sea bream, wrasse, and other species in significant numbers. On the shallow rocky shoreline side, a small cave adds an additional dimension to the snorkelling.
Crow Rock is accessible only by boat — making it an exclusively private boat experience. Consequently, the water here remains genuinely undisturbed.
Boat access:
Għar Minka Cave — Pigeon Cave
Għar Minka — also known as Pigeon Cave — is a hidden sea cave close to Il-Blata l-Bajda and Ramla tal-Mġarr on Gozo’s south coast. Approximately 14 metres deep, the cave has crystal-clear blue water and the extraordinary light reflections on its limestone walls that characterise the finest Gozo sea caves.
Traditionally, local fishermen have used Għar Minka to catch damselfish and — in winter — squid. The cave retains a genuinely fishing-community character that the more famous tourist caves lack. Inside, the light creates a magical glow that makes it one of the most photogenic small caves on the Gozo coastline.
Boat access:
Żewwieqa Bay — The Harbour’s Hidden Swimming Spot
Żewwieqa Bay sits just outside the left breakwater near Mġarr Harbour — small, rocky, and genuinely overlooked by most visitors who walk straight past it on the promenade. However, the water here is clean, clear, and consistently better for snorkelling than many of Gozo’s more famous beaches. Groupers and octopus are regularly spotted close to the rocky seabed.
Furthermore, Żewwieqa is genuinely accessible — wooden decking makes water entry comfortable, toilets and showers are on site, and parking is nearby. For anyone arriving at Mġarr on the ferry, it is the perfect first stop for a refreshing swim before exploring the island. For our Mġarr Harbour guide with complete ferry information and restaurant recommendations, read here.
Boat access:
Ġorġun Beach — The Secluded Bay Near Mġarr
Ġorġun Beach in Għajnsielem is tucked away near Mġarr Harbour — small, rocky, and surrounded by cliffs that keep it genuinely private even in peak summer. Reaching it requires either following the cemetery road downhill or approaching from the Gozo Channel ferry offices via a short path and rocky steps. Water shoes are strongly recommended — the seabed is rocky and the entrance uneven.
Once there, the reward is immediate. Calm blue water, octopus consistently visible in the rocks, and complete quiet. Snorkelling is excellent. Sunbathing on the rocky shore has a genuine wild character that the more developed beaches cannot replicate.
Boat access:
Xatt l-Aħmar — The Wreck Bay

Snorkel.
Xatt l-Aħmar — meaning “the red coast” — is a quiet bay in Għajnsielem that combines outstanding diving with a genuinely peaceful above-water experience. Sheltered from northern winds, the bay is one of Gozo’s finest dive sites — home to the MV Karwela, MV Cominoland, and MV Xlendi wrecks, all deliberately scuttled to create artificial reefs.
The Karwela is especially celebrated among underwater photographers for its interior staircase. The Cominoland, sunk alongside Karwela in 2006, provides a fascinating exploration structure. The Xlendi wreck (scuttled 1999) is the deepest of the three at approximately 40 metres. Together they form an extraordinary underwater museum where marine life thrives.
Above water, the views of Fort Chambray and Mġarr Harbour are spectacular while the bay itself remains peaceful and far less crowded than any beach further north.
Boat access:
Ras il-Ħobż — The Head of the Loaf
Ras il-Ħobż — the Head of the Loaf — is one of Gozo’s most distinctive coastal rock formations on the southern shore near Xewkija. Its unique shape jutting dramatically into the sea makes it an unmissable landmark from the water. Furthermore, this site is best known for the Middle Finger dive spot — a towering pinnacle rising from the seabed surrounded by extraordinarily clear water teeming with marine life.
Accessible by boat, Ras il-Ħobż offers tranquillity and breathtaking seascapes completely away from the busy tourist beaches.
Boat access:
Mġarr ix-Xini — The Most Beautiful Bay in Gozo
Mġarr ix-Xini is the finest bay in Gozo and one of the finest in the entire Mediterranean.
This extraordinary fjord-like inlet on Gozo’s south coast — barely accessible by land and perfectly accessible by private boat — was described by CNN as one of the top coastal locations to visit. Furthermore, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt filmed By the Sea here in 2015. The bay was used by the Knights of St John as a harbour and later by Ottoman forces. Overlooking the entrance, the 1661 Mġarr ix-Xini Tower — built by Grand Master de Redin — still stands on the clifftop, still guarding the channel below.
The water is calm, clear, and breathtakingly beautiful. Sea caves hidden within the cliffs are accessible by our Gaia boat’s shallow draft. Snorkelling inside the caves and around the rocky walls of the inlet is one of the finest experiences available anywhere in the Maltese islands.
Boat access:
Southwest Gozo — Cliffs, Caves and the Finest Sunsets
Il-Kantra Inlet — Cliff Diving at Xlendi
Il-Kantra Inlet near Xlendi is a peaceful, sheltered spot best reached by private boat. Dramatic cliffs enclose the inlet on both sides — creating calm, clear water for snorkelling and multiple cliff diving entry points into deep blue sea. The Ta’ Ċenċ Lido Bar overlooks the inlet from above, offering extraordinary coastal views for those who want to combine adventure with relaxation.
Boat access:
Sanap Cliffs — The Most Dramatic Coastline in Gozo
The Sanap Cliffs on Gozo’s south coast are among the island’s most breathtaking natural landmarks — and they are best seen from the water. Towering white limestone cliffs dropping straight to the deep Mediterranean blue below, with a cobblestone road visible from the water leading to the Pinur viewpoint above.
From a private boat at sunset, the Sanap Cliffs glow in golden and crimson hues — one of the most extraordinary natural light shows available anywhere on the Gozo coastline. Quiet, remote, and completely unspoiled. A must-see on the 6-hour or 8-hour private tour.
Boat access:
Ta’ Ċenċ Cliffs — The Romantic Sunset Backdrop
The Ta’ Ċenċ Cliffs stretch along Gozo’s southern coast — dramatic, untouched limestone dropping away to the deep sea below. From the water on a private boat at golden hour, these cliffs become one of the most romantic backdrops in the Maltese islands.
The combination of the cliff height, the deep water colour below, and the sunset light creates something genuinely extraordinary. Consequently, Ta’ Ċenċ is one of our most popular stops for couples — including marriage proposals. There is no better angle on these cliffs than from a boat anchored in the calm water below them.
Boat access:
Xlendi Bay — Caves, Tower, and Magical Sunsets
Xlendi Bay is one of Gozo’s most charming seaside villages — dramatic cliffs, sea caves, clear water, and the authentic character of a fishing community that has been here for centuries. By private boat, the highlights are Caroline’s Cave (Ta’ Karolina), the hidden gorge bridge at Il-Kantra, the historic Xlendi Tower, and the nearby salt pans that stretch along the clifftop.
Caroline’s Cave deserves its own mention. Formerly belonging to Caroline Cauchi — a wealthy woman from Victoria who later founded the Order of Augustinian Sisters — the cave was gifted for the sisters’ use, providing a secluded rock pool for private swimming. Today it is reached by a winding path past restaurants, through a tunnel, and down to the shore. One of Gozo’s most genuinely historic and atmospheric sea cave locations.
At sunset, Xlendi is magical — the cliffs turn orange and gold, the bay fills with evening light, and the village takes on a warmth that makes it one of the finest evening destinations in Gozo.
Boat access:
Fungus Rock and Dwejra Bay — The Knights’ Final Fortress

dwejra and the inland sea
Fungus Rock — Il-Ġebla tal-Ġeneral — is the 60-metre-high limestone islet guarding the entrance to Dwejra Bay. The Knights of St John believed the rare plant growing on its summit had powerful medicinal properties and guarded the rock fiercely — using a basket pulley system to retrieve the plant without allowing anyone to climb the rock directly.
Today Fungus Rock forms part of the Dwejra Nature Reserve and is surrounded by crystal-clear water extraordinary for snorkelling and diving — caves, caverns, and thriving marine life. At sunset from a private boat, Fungus Rock becomes one of the most spectacular photographic subjects on the entire Gozo coastline.
Dwejra Bay
itself is one of Gozo’s most dramatic coastal locations — home to the Inland Sea (Qawra), the Blue Hole, and the site of the former Azure Window (collapsed 2017). Visiting by boat gives you the full dramatic perspective of this extraordinary landscape.
Boat access:
The Blue Hole Gozo — World-Famous Dive Site
The Blue Hole at Dwejra Bay is one of the most celebrated dive sites in the entire Mediterranean — a natural limestone pool connected to the open sea through an underwater arch that drops away to significant depth. Marine life, caves, and swim-throughs make it extraordinary for experienced and advanced divers. From the surface on a private boat, the Blue Hole is still spectacular — the geometry of the rock and the colour of the water combining to create something genuinely dramatic.
Boat access:
The Inland Sea (Qawra) — The Tunnel
The Inland Sea is a small, sheltered lagoon at Dwejra linked to the open Mediterranean by a dramatic 80-metre natural tunnel through the cliffs. On a private boat tour, our Gaia navigates directly through this passage — the limestone walls towering on both sides, the light changing as the tunnel narrows and then opens into the open sea beyond.
Emerging from the Inland Sea tunnel into the Mediterranean is one of the most dramatic single moments available on any private boat tour in the Maltese islands. Furthermore, the tunnel is only navigable by small boats — the Gaia’s 25ft length and shallow draft makes it possible where larger vessels cannot follow.
Boat access:
Wied il-Mielaħ — The Natural Arch
Wied il-Mielaħ is Gozo’s surviving natural arch — often called the Blue Window in reference to the lost Azure Window at Dwejra. Towering dramatically above the sea, it is one of the most photographed natural features in Gozo. By private boat, the arch is approached from the water — giving a completely different perspective from the clifftop land approach. Furthermore, nearby sea caves are accessible for snorkelling. Sport climbing enthusiasts use the limestone cliff faces around Wied il-Mielaħ for challenging routes.
Boat access:
North Gozo — Salt Pans, Gorges and the Finest Reefs
Għar tal-Qrewis — The Big Cave
Għar tal-Qrewis — the Big Cave — is one of the largest sea caves on Gozo’s north coast. Its vast limestone walls and dramatic scale make it genuinely awe-inspiring from the water. Furthermore, high above the cave entrance, locals can often be seen practising an ancient form of fishing — casting lines from the clifftop into the deep water directly below the cave. This combination of natural scale and living cultural tradition makes Għar tal-Qrewis a unique highlight of the north Gozo coastline.
Boat access:
Wied il-Għasri — The Hidden Gorge
Wied il-Għasri is one of Gozo’s most spectacular hidden coastal locations — a narrow gorge carved through the limestone by centuries of water action, opening at the sea into a tiny pebbly bay framed by towering cliffs. Best visited on calm days with south winds, this is a genuinely extraordinary stop on any private boat tour.
We anchor in the bluest part of the bay — surrounded by dramatic limestone walls that rise dramatically on both sides. For adventure seekers, cliff diving is available from both sides of the gorge. For those who prefer calm, the peace and visual drama of simply being in this space is extraordinary.
The gorge connects to the famous salt pans of Xwejni above — the historical salt storage caves visible in the cliff face from the water below. For our complete Xwejni Bay guide including the clockmaker’s shaft story and the Santa Maria Battery detail, read here.
Boat access:
Reqqa Point — Gozo’s Finest Dive Site
Reqqa Point on Gozo’s north coast beneath Żebbuġ village is the finest dive and free-dive location on the island — and one of the finest in the entire Mediterranean. The underwater topography is extraordinary — vertical drop-offs, submerged chimneys, huge boulders, and fissures leading to a sandy bottom at 25 metres.
Large grouper, dentex, hunting barracuda, and rays are all regularly seen here. The Scyllaridae slipper lobster — the extraordinary flat-bodied crustacean found in the deeper rocky sections — is present at Reqqa. On calm days, our boat anchors nearby for free diving directly from the boat.
A bronze sculpture by Gozitan artist Austin Camilleri — two horses nested together, titled Wieħed — has been installed at Reqqa Point at water level. Furthermore, in 1622, Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt established a sentinel station here — part of the same coastal defence network that produced the Red Tower at Mellieħa. For more on Reqqa Point’s extraordinary detail, read our complete Xwejni Bay guide.
Boat access:
Xwejni Bay and the Salt Pans — Where History Meets the Sea
Xwejni Bay on Gozo’s north coast is one of the finest snorkelling locations in the Maltese islands — and one of the most culturally rich coastal locations in Gozo. The ancient salt pans carved into the limestone cliff edge extend for 3 kilometres along the coastline toward Reqqa Point, still actively worked by Gozitan families from Żebbuġ village who have harvested salt here for over 350 years.
The bay has a nursery reef at approximately 1 metre depth — accessible only on completely calm days — with extraordinary concentrations of juvenile fish. A deeper reef at approximately 8 metres supports moray eels, octopus, parrot fish, and wrasse in numbers that consistently surprise experienced snorkellers. Furthermore, Xwejni is one of the very few places in the world where you can watch the sunrise and sunset over the sea from exactly the same spot — the bay’s specific orientation making both eastern and western sea horizons visible simultaneously.
The Santa Maria Battery (1715–1716, Knights of Malta) stands above the bay with four of its original six cannons still in place. The Qolla l-Bajda — the extraordinary white limestone dome at the eastern edge — is eroding faster than most people realise. The gilded rock by Maltese artist Austin Camilleri sits in the centre of the bay as part of his 1999 Stones project. The boathouses at the western end were painted repeatedly by Maltese artist Pawl Carbonaro.
For the complete Xwejni Bay guide with all the local knowledge, read here.
Boat access:
Il-Qolla l-Bajda — The White Hillock
Il-Qolla l-Bajda — the White Hillock — is the flat-topped limestone dome rising from the northern coastline directly beside Xwejni Bay. Its bright white form stands out against the darker cliffs and the blue water — a recognisable landmark on the north coast boat approach. Beneath it, one of Gozo’s finest snorkelling reefs rewards visitors with rich marine life on the rocky seabed. Combined with the adjacent Xwejni salt pans and Reqqa Point, it forms one of the most historically and naturally extraordinary sections of Gozo’s entire coastline.
Qbajjar Bay — Surf, Snorkel, and History
Qbajjar Bay sits between Xwejni and Marsalforn — a scenic coastal stop with calm summer waters and excellent snorkelling and free diving conditions. In winter, strong north winds make Qbajjar one of the few surfing locations in Gozo. The nearby Qolla l-Bajda Battery — an 18th-century coastal fort — adds historical dimension to what is already a beautiful bay.
Boat access:
Marsalforn Bay — Gozo’s Seaside Resort and the Lunch Stop
Marsalforn is Gozo’s most popular seaside resort — vibrant, colourful, and full of the authentic character of a fishing village that has become a holiday destination without losing its soul. The small port filled with colourful luzzus, the promenade, the restaurants, and the bars all create an atmosphere that is genuinely Gozitan rather than generically Mediterranean.
On the 8-hour private Gozo tour, Marsalforn is the ideal lunch stop — the selection of seaside restaurants and bars along the waterfront is excellent, and the bay’s position at the midpoint of the north coast tour means the timing works perfectly.
Għar Qawqla — the limestone sea stack just off Marsalforn, once a natural arch
connected to the mainland — is popular for swimming, snorkelling, and cliff-jumping from the rock. It is included as a refreshing swim stop on private tours around the north Gozo coastline.
Boat access:
Northeast Gozo — Red Sand, Hidden Bays, and the Finest Local Beaches
Għajn Barrani — The True Hidden Gem
Għajn Barrani is a secluded coastal bay near Ramla l-Ħamra that genuinely earns the description “hidden gem” — because it is both genuinely beautiful and genuinely difficult to reach by land. Rugged trails provide land access, but the far easier and more enjoyable approach is by private boat. Dramatic cliffs, completely untouched shoreline, and deep blue water that remains entirely undisturbed by tourist traffic. Few visitors make it here. Private boat tour guests consistently rate it among their favourite stops of the day.
Boat access:
Ramla Bay — Gozo’s Most Beautiful Beach
Ramla Bay — Ramla il-Ħamra, the Red Sandy Beach — is the finest beach in Gozo and one of the finest in the entire Mediterranean.
The wide stretch of red-golden sand surrounded by terraced hills and lush valleys creates a setting that is genuinely unlike any other beach in the Maltese islands. The colour is distinctive — the same iron-rich geological process that produces Golden Bay’s red-golden sand on Malta, but richer and more vivid at Ramla. The bay is a Natura 2000 protected site — the sand dune habitats, the turtle nesting zone, and the rare plant species all protected under EU conservation law.
Loggerhead sea turtles have nested at Ramla every year from 2020 to 2025 — a remarkable conservation success story for a beach that was once significantly disturbed by tourism. Local volunteers protect the nesting sites throughout the season. Furthermore, Ramla has outstanding snorkelling — particularly on the east side at the location locals call Tal-Gawwi, a name that does not appear on any tourist map but that our skippers know well.
The Roman villa at Ramla — 19 rooms excavated in the 1960s — lies partially submerged at the eastern edge of the bay. The Knights of Malta underwater wall is visible from the boat at the correct angle. And Calypso Cave on the clifftop above — traditionally identified as the cave where Homer’s nymph Calypso kept Odysseus for seven years — overlooks the bay from the hillside, though it has been closed to the public in recent years.
For the complete Ramla Bay guide with all the local knowledge, read here.
Boat access:
Ix-Xtajta Beach — Ramla’s Quiet Neighbour
Ix-Xtajta Beach sits directly beside Ramla l-Ħamra — smaller, quieter, and genuinely peaceful even in peak summer when Ramla itself is busy. The golden-red sand and clear water are comparable to Ramla, the crowds are not. By private boat, this hidden alternative to Gozo’s most famous beach is an extraordinary stop that most visitors never find.
Boat access:
Għar Mixta — The Cave With the Best View of Ramla
Perched high on the cliffs above Ramla Bay, Għar Mixta is a historic watch cave that once guarded Gozo’s north coast against corsair raids. Its natural arch frames a panoramic view of Ramla Bay below — one of the finest viewpoints in all of Gozo. Reached by a 15-minute scenic walk along a path leading down to Ramla. Best visited before 10:00 in the morning for complete quiet and the most extraordinary light on the red sand below.
San Blas Bay — The Best Kept Secret on the Northeast Coast
San Blas Bay is the beach that Gozo residents call their favourite — and the one that most visitors to the island never find.
Famous for its reddish-orange sand and surrounded by lush green terraced hillsides, San Blas has a genuinely magical character that the more accessible beaches cannot replicate. The access by land is steep and challenging — which is precisely why the bay stays so peaceful. Arriving by boat — anchoring just offshore to admire the beach from the water — is the finest approach.
A tiny shack on the beach serves some of the island’s freshest fried calamari with cold beer — one of the finest simple pleasures available anywhere on the Gozo coastline. The snorkelling around the bay is outstanding. The atmosphere is incomparable.
For our complete San Blas Bay guide including the Tal-Gawwi snorkelling location, read our complete best beaches Gozo guide here.
Boat access:
San Filep Beach — The Rocky Bay Near Dahlet Qorrot
San Filep Beach is a hidden rocky bay close to Dahlet Qorrot in Nadur — small, surrounded by dramatic rock formations, and popular with local fishermen whose presence gives it an authentic character that the tourist beaches lack. The views of the historic Sopu Tower from the bay add cultural depth. Marine life in the clear shallows is consistently visible. Best enjoyed on a private boat tour.
Boat access:
Dahlet Qorrot — The Boathouse Bay

san filep bay , dahlet qorrot
Dahlet Qorrot is a charming pebble-and-sand beach on Gozo’s northeast coast — one of the most photographed local beaches on the island for a specific reason. Colourful traditional fishermen’s boathouses carved directly into the limestone cliffs on both sides of the bay give it a visual character completely unlike any other beach in the Maltese islands.
The bay is peaceful, the water clear, and the atmosphere genuinely local. Families have been coming to Dahlet Qorrot for decades. Some have boathouses that have been in the family for generations. The summer atmosphere — boats bobbing, families swimming, the smell of grilled fish from the boathouses — is one of the most authentically Gozitan experiences available anywhere on the coast.
The bay has a jetty — confirmed accessible for private boat visits — making it one of the few northeast Gozo coastal locations where the boat can dock directly rather than anchoring offshore.
For our complete Dahlet Qorrot guide including the clockmaker shaft story and the Cathedral Cave detail, read here.
Boat access:
Qala Point — The Easternmost Tip of Gozo
Qala Point — Ras il-Qala — marks the easternmost tip of Gozo and is one of the most serene and private swimming spots on the island. The water here is some of the clearest and bluest in all of Gozo. A small, secluded inlet with a cave provides a perfect anchoring position — completely quiet, completely private, and completely away from the crowds. On a clear day, Malta is visible on the southern horizon and Comino sits directly to the west.

How to See the Best of Gozo’s Beaches by Private Boat
The most extraordinary detail about Gozo’s coastline is that the finest locations are not accessible by land. Mġarr ix-Xini, Ta’ Bamberin, Żrieżaq Bay, Għajn Barrani, Crow Rock, Reqqa Point, the Inland Sea tunnel, and dozens of unnamed coves along the south and north coast are all only properly accessible from the water.
Our family-run team has been sailing this coastline every day since 2016. Our Italian-built Gaia boats — 25ft, 300HP Yamaha, shallow draft — access locations that larger vessels cannot reach. The shallow draft means we anchor directly in the bay rather than standing off in deeper water. Furthermore, our experienced skippers know every cave, reef, and hidden detail along the complete Gozo circuit.

San Blas Bay is the finest hidden beach — reddish-orange sand, outstanding snorkelling, and a tiny shack serving fresh fried calamari with cold beer. Ta’ Bamberin Inlet is the most extraordinary hidden experience — a narrow gorge with caves and air pockets accessible by private boat. For the complete secret beaches guide, read here.
How do I get to Gozo?
By the Gozo Channel Ferry from Cirkewwa in northern Malta — approximately 25 minutes. Alternatively, by the Gozo Fast Ferry from Valletta Grand Harbour — under 45 minutes. For the complete Mġarr Harbour guide including ferry times and restaurants, read here.
Can I book a private boat tour from Gozo?

What is the best time to visit Gozo beaches?
May to June and September to October are the finest months — warm water, fewer crowds, and the finest light for photography. July and August are warmest but busiest. All beaches are accessible year-round. For the complete Malta and Gozo travel planning guide, check our 5-day Malta itinerary here.
